Abstract | The preliminary studies recognized twelve bridges crossing over Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. Krungthep Bridge is one of the oldest bridge among those twelve bridges. It was identified that, the main failure mode of most of the steel bridges was fatigue failure. Due to the age of the aforementioned bridge, the need to evaluate its fatigue life was deemed to be essential. The analyses of the bridge was mainly carried out across three different components , such as fatigue analysis for cross beams due to the bending moment, truss members due to axial forces and joint analysis of plate shear stresses and bolt shear stresses. SAP 2000 software was used to obtain the bending moment and axial forces of the critical members. The traffic data for the analysis were provided by Ministry of Transport, Department of Rural Roads. Three separated S-N curves were used for these three analysis types. Six axle Thai Truck was used as the dynamic load in a different configurations for the analysis. According to the analysis process it was obtained that Krungthep Bridge has infinite life time due to the fatigue. |
