AbstractThe economic recession in Thailand brought about many changes in the history of Thailand. The once-rising economy fell, prices flared, industries closed, lay-offs increased, and many other harsh realities came into being. All these affected the buying behavior of the Thai public. The buying power of the people reached its nadir during this tough times. This has led to the gradual adjustment of the consumption habits of Thai people. This study is based on the changes in the purchasing power and behavior of the people; and the direct and indirect interrelated effect with the consumer industry. This has led the companies to modify their marketing strategies in order to remain in competitive positions in the different market segments. This had been the main theme of this study. This research will help such companies in deciding their new strategies in order to compete in the present scenario. This study was carried out with that aim in mind.
