| Abstract | The seismic performance of a five and ten story steel special moment frame structure with fixed-base and an isolated base are determined. The design of the fixed base steel frames were done in accordance with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7-10. Nonlinear time-history analyses, using three ground motions are then conducted. The story forces, story accelerations and inter story drift ratios are evaluated. When compared to the base isolation structure better a performance is achieved at various design force levels, depending on the performance criteria. |
