AbstractThis thesis presents the design and development of a Front-End for a multi-threading customizable microprocessor. The Front-End contains all the control logic for the processor and is the main responsible for multi-threading support. The number of supported hardware threads can be configured pre-synthesis and the processor's Instruction Set can be easily expanded; the configuration process, as well as how the architecture was designed to allow it, are explained. Some results regarding the Front-End's area and performance, as well as the multithreading impact on those features are shown and a qualitative view of the processor's suitability for application specific design is demonstrated.
