AbstractThis thesis studied whether most people need content in their language, whether people have problems using the Internet due to language, which language do they use on the Internet and whether they will learn English to use the Internet. The study is conducted in Thailand, so the native language is Thai. Data on Thai users' Internet usage, with perspectives on language problems, language preference and native language usage was collected from two provinces, which are Bangkok, the capital city area, and Rayong, sub-urban area. The results and analysis show that majority of respondents need more native language sites. Also, language is not a major problem in creating the digital divide, but is a minor problem overall. Absolute network effects, i.e., most people will learn English to use Internet are not likely for Thailand as many people also want content in native language, along with learning English. Most respondents need native language content. Specifically, analyses by demographic variables show that the younger age groups, recent users of the Internet and those with fair English levels have more need for native language content. Also, language as a problem on the Internet and Internet usage differ by English level. In conclusion, we know the characteristics of users requiring more native language content, Internet user's language choice online and reasons for using a particular language, which can be a guideline for native language content development
