AbstractThis thesis studies a periodic preventive maintenance (PM) policy with two failure modes within a planning interval which includes N periods of length T. In each period, failures are minimally repaired with respective cost. At the end of each period of length T, an imperfect preventive maintenance action is performed. A replacement action is then performed at the end of the last period. A mathematic model is derived to determine the optimal number of periods and the length of each period (N*, T*) so as to minimize the total cost rate for an infinite time span in which repair time is negligible. An extension of the proposal model dealing with non-negligible repair time is then investigated. A simulation program is developed to help find maximum availability and minimum cost rate for this extended model. Numerical experiments and sensitivity analysis are also conducted to illustrate the applicability of the proposed models
