Abstract | In the past, Thailand enjoyed decades of strong and stable expansion and was one of the developing countries in Asia winning world's acclaim for its successful economic development. However, in 1997, due to the economic crisis, it has faced a problem similar to that of Japan and South Korea (in the past), mainly a large amount of bad debts sustained by the financial sector due to the bubble-style economy. This problem remains. The objectives of the study are to provide an overview of Thai construction industry and to compare the past performance and current status of the selected construction companies namely Italian-Thai Development Public Co., Ltd. and CH. Karnchang Public Co., Ltd. The Policy implication for the public and private sector to counteract with the economic crisis will also be proposed. Results of the study indicate that Thai construction industry has been and will be facing further fall in profits. Moreover, the competition for the available projects will become tighter. For the construction companies covered in this study, they have also ยท been suffering from the economic crisis.
