Abstract | Sustainability is a vast concept to be defined in a line. A sustainability indicator is also a broad area to study and measure. There are no exact indicators which can measure sustainability exactly. However, many attempts were done to measure sustainability since 1990's and it is still going on. This study is also an attempt to develop a set of indicators to measure the sustainable development at village level. The approach of the study was, first to develop indicator set which can be applied at village level. Then after identifying a village, apply the indicators to check the sustainable development of the village. The study begins with review of the sustainable indicators from the literature. Then, after selection of the study village and data collection, the indicators for the village were estimated. These were then compared with the benchmarks from the literature and sustainable development of the village was identified. However, in this study indicators were estimated only for one village. It is recommended that these indicators be tested for other villages to see the usefulness and applicability of developed indicators. |
