Abstract | There is an ongoing paradigm shift in which we consume data on the internet. This is also leading to a change in the way we can distribute data to the end users. With the advent of Content Delivery Networks (CDN), the campaign of data decentralization has begun. Data is being made available closer to the user than ever before with the use of a CDN. However, setting up a CDN needs considerable resources and there is a certain overhead in the management of these CDNs. This is where Future Internet Architectures such as Information Centric Networking (ICN), and Named Data Networking (NDN) come in. NDN is one of many projects under the umbrella of ICN. NDN, much like other projects under ICN, looks to shift the paradigm of the network from a host centric network to a data centric network. This is done by decoupling the data sender and receiver in a network with the utilization of Named Data Objects (NDO). NDN also utilizes in-network caching, along with its own routing table called Forwarding Information Base (FIB) along with a Pending Interest Table (PIT) that records unsatisfied interests. This research study investigates the performance evaluation of various types of caching methods in a network. We also propose a new method of pre-caching that would better utilize high-impact centralized nodes better in a network when the same data is requested by multiple nodes. Finally, testing is done in a real-world scenario with the use of a topology generated with Rocket Fuel which is a real-world ISP map topology. |
