Abstract | In the past years, rice farming combined with aquaculture in Vietnam have been proving more economic than the rice monoculture. Mekong area is flooded for 5-6 months every year. Recently, the breakthrough on agro-ecological change has facilitated models of multiculture, such as fish-rice, fish-indigo, net aquaculture, orchard-fish, and catfish in ponds. These models have contributed significantly to society not only in poverty reduction but also creating exports and job creation. However, the development potential for these models is very high, but it has not been estimated. The problems mentioned here to planners is "How to locate suitable sites" in order to develop these aquaculture models. In this study, two methods were considered, Fuzzy logic and AHP (Analysis Hierarchy Process), for supporting multi-criteria decision-making. These methods were inserted and processed in GIS tools by combining expert ideas of aquaculture requirement proposals. Eighteen data layers in five data factors of AHP method and eleven layers of Fuzzy logic method were analyzed with a case study of six provinces of in-land Mekong river areas, Vietnam. Furthermore, the study considered evaluating for fresh-water aquaculture in general, and then the finally suitable area is compared with aquaculture models of land-use in order to identify suitable site for aquaculture models. A series models of GIS application was developed with the following results: For the AHP method: High suitability areas 187,151 ha (11.75%), in which types of landuse that are suitable for freshwater aquaculture changing are including fresh-water shrimp culture12ha, fish pond culture 747ha, Shrimp - Rice (1448ha), Orchard 5047ha, Indigo forest 2,658 ha. For the Fuzzy logic method: Suitability: 286,448 ha (17.1 %) %), in which types of landuse that are suitable for freshwater aquaculture changing are including Fish farm 654ha, Rice farm 259,594ha, Shrimp - rice farm 1025ha, Orchard 12,074 ha, Indigo forest 13101ha. The suitability of intersection area of two methods was found to be 252,308 ha. In the context of multi-culture model development, Rice-Fish model as a mainstream should be developed in this study areas. The result also reported that the correlation between two methods area is not very high, and thus which one of method should be applied depend on specific purpose planning. In the context of aquaculture planning, AHP method should be applied for site alternatives of focused areas development of aquaculture planning, and Fuzzy logic method should be employed in case of identifying suitable site only. |
