Abstract | Cibinong Town is a satellite town Metropolitan of Jakarta. Inadequate supply of formal public transport services from this satellite town to the city centre has given birth to a paratransit service that shows characteristics of carpooling. However it functions as a commercial service and not as a ride share arrangement. This study examines the specific role of this service order to determine the potential for its recognition as an integral pa1t of the public transport system. The analysis concludes that the service plays a complementary but also and competitor for the public transport service. Its main strength is that it offers to the passengers, who are mostly office worker in the city center, the seamless transport and convenience service. The main weakness is its lack of legal status as a passenger transport service. The analysis of commuters' perceptions show that there are no significantly different perceptions between women and men regarding its availability, accessibility, reliability, and comfort. Based on those findings, three possible scenarios are assessed to integrate this paratransit service with the formal transport from suburban area to the city centre. |
