Abstract | A bicycle has been mean of transportation for more than a century. It has gone through many significant improvements including multi-speed transmission to make riding be convenient, be less energy and be enjoyable. Majority of multi-speed transmission mechanism is manually operated by riders, and many times, the riders have experienced the difficult operation. This research focuses on designing an automatic transmission mechanism that can be added on to bicycles. The transmission has been designed to shift gear according to chain tension and speed. A prototype has been manufactured and successfully tested both in laboratory and on the road. However, further study on relationship among the component is required to improve smooth transmission |
