AbstractMy thesis has developed a remote control system for an underwater robot using two sonar sensors (acoustic transducers). Functions of this robot are to investigate, measure, gather parameters of underwater environment of rivers, canals, seashore. This system can be divided in to two parts: communication and control. The underwater communication part is designed with a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter receives commands from a keypad and generates acoustic signals. Usable frequency of the sonar sensors is 8-16 KHz. There are two coding methods proposed: frequency and pulse code. The receiver receives signals and after processing. by a band pass filter and an adjustable signal circuit, they are converted in to pulse signals. These pulse signals will be decoded to identify the transmitted commands. The pulse signals after decoding will be used to control the underwater robot. A simple control algoritlun is applied and the robot can be operated with 8 directions
