Abstract | Risk management has been a critical issue in all aspects of the project, and this has result from initiation of the project until completion. An effective project risk management process requires a systematic approach and involvement of all management level of the company as well as project management team which is led by the project manager. This study intended to identify the major risks related construction of LNG importing terminal projects in Vietnam then propose an effective risk management plan for the similar projects in future. The risk identification method describes through a case study of the Thi Vai LNG Importing Terminal. The analysis revealed that the main issues were generated from the insufficient of local legislations. This was followed by external factors, such as authorities’ approval which are uncontrollable. There’s also potential risk from shortage of the local contractors who experienced in construction of LNG project that needs participant of foreign contractors. The other predominated factors are lack of domestic material and manufacturers. The involvement of international contractors who are not familiar with local statutory regulations and complicate procurement process for importing materials may lead huge impact to the project objectives such as project delay or cost overrun. The study also discussed on the risk management plan that proposes the risk mitigation strategies for reduce probability and the consequence of the major risks. |
