AbstractWith majority of the active job seeker being online, internet has been a place for the posting job vacancy and search as well. But the employers have to go through all the CVs before short listing and valuable time of the HR personnel is being wasted. Automatic short listing applications can reduce the cost incurred in the process. Present day job search applications are primarily based on string matching techniques which have limitations. Because of being syntax based, it misses the semantics and can sometimes produce incorrect results. In this study we have proposed two semantic based systems which overcome some problems of the string matching system. The first requirement of such system is IT-Skill ontology accepted by all and available to both the job seekers and job providers. The ontology will be later updated with the job specifications and CVs. The job could be treated as person in the ontology because it represents description of a hypothetical person. In one approach, the CVs that have some contradicting characteristics to the job requirement are first filtered out. Then remaining CVs are ranked using distance based similarity metric. In other approach, weight are assigned to preferred skills and CVs that fulfill the basic requirement are ranked based on addition skills they possesses by summing respective weights. Based on the results recommendations for improvement and future work is made.
