AbstractThis research study gives a planning of e-learning infrastructure based on WiMAX technology to bring e-learning services for the target area, Shan State of Myanmar. Bringing of e-learning infrastructure to the target area is essential to reduce the barriers of distance, knowledge gap and economic development. WiMAX technology provides higher speeds over longer distances and it gives wider bandwidth. In the target areas, seven WiMAX base stations are established and according to the population density, we use one high density base station in Taunggyi and six micro base stations in other places. One repeater station is established between Tang Yan and Matman base stations because of the long distance. The investment for this infrastructure is about 310,500 USD but we can get back many intangible benefits such as development of the region, reduce education gap between urban and rural areas and also reduce the education cost for the people. By using WiMAX system, we can extend and use other online services such as e-government, e-health and others with wider bandwidth, faster data rate and high quality
