AbstractIndigenous urban green spaces as part of urban environment constitute a significant role in the complex urban ecosystem comprise of natural, social, economical and scientific subsystems. The overwhelming emphasize on the rapid development in social, economical aspects of urban life often overshadows the requirement of equivalent magnitude of urban nature conservation in city management and planning procedures. The study intends to explore and describe the prospects and constraints of conservation of indigenous urban green spaces in Chittagong city, which contains the inherent advantage of presence of remnant natural green spaces within the city area as well as witnessing rapid urban development pressures over the years. The role of urban nature in the form of indigenous urban green space in pursue of sustainable urban environment and improved quality of life in Chittagong city has been addressed in the study based on stakeholders' perception, existing laws, regulations, and their implementation process by the city authority. The study therefore, contributes to the required comprehensive efforts for achieving sustainable urban environment through continuing scientific research in the field of urban nature enhancement and conservation. The perceived factors endangering the existing indigenous urban green spaces, the gaps and drawbacks in implementation of existing policy guidelines explored through the study process in Chittagong city, highlights the requirement of extensive planning and management procedures to ensure incorporate and conserve urban natural features within the urbanization process
