AbstractThe study explores the impact issues related to socio-economic, biological and institution of community fisheries project at the northern part of Tonle Sap Great Lake of Cambodia. The assessment of economic has been done to analyze the income change of fisheries users, identification of household subsistence economic, and examining the marketing system of the community. The biological impact assessment was based on fish catch composition changed before and after CFP, this also included the change of species diversity and fish catch productivity. The current status of fisheries management by local people is based on the process of CF monitoring and participation in fisheries management by CF people. The research is targeted to Chong Kneas community fisheries project of Food and Agriculture of the United Nations (FAO) as its case study. The findings of the study found that the incomes have not been improves after four years project. the fisheries has been protected since its establishment but due to the lack of supporting from concerned authorities, the management of fisheries resources by CF committee still faced many problem that led to deteriorate of fish production for people generated their household income. The marketing system does not improve since the establishment of project; it is due to lack of capacity among the fishers and financial assistance. The existing marketing system is based on individual or traditional system. Examining of social issue there are some mains result indication. The workload of fishing activities after CFP is higher than the situation before CFP to be medium. Community fisheries do not impact to reduce daily fishing activities of the CF member. After CFP, the fishing activity is highly increased when related activities such as fish processing and fish selling are decreased. However, the CFP does not impact to improve technical know-how, housing condition, employment and education. The findings of fisheries management by local community people can assess the community fisheries project to be a little bit robust. The community is faced with inadequate of fisheries monitoring and management, which is not able to achieve higher success in their management. The main constraints encounters with mentions are: lack of economical benefit from fishing, low knowledge among members and some social pressure. Based on the findings, requisite factors, which are the most appropriate to use in Chong Kneas community fisheries, for community fisheries developments have been recommended
