AbstractThis study concentrates on developing a Decision Support System for Emergency Medical Services. The efficient management of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a very important aspect for the welfare and the health services offered to citizens. An efficient management is important, since the failure of an ambulance to respond to an emergency call within a certain time may result in loss of life. An EMS system can be improved by reducing the respond times. This can be archived by finding an optimal route which an ambulance should travel in order to reach an indecent site as fast as possible. Once arrived on the emergency site, the ambulance should also be guided along an optimal path to the nearest appropriate hospital. Another option to reduce response times is to strategically locate ambulances throughout the city to archive a better demand coverage. This study developed a software application which helps EMS personnel to better manage their EMS system. This system helps routing and managing the ambulances and it is able to find either the shortest or fastest path, by incorporating time windows. In addition a mathematical model was developed and solved for Pattaya City, Thailand, which would give EMS personal suggestions where ambulances should be located in order to further reduce response times and to better cover high accident risk areas
