AbstractIn the past, some researches have been conducted on preventive maintenance policies in which the system may incur type I failure (minor) and type II failure (serious) and the system undergoes the minimum repair at failure of type I and is replaced at nth type I failures or at type II failure or at age T, whichever comes first. In this these researches, the number of type I failures between successive replacements (n) and the age of replacement (1) are determined with due regards to the minimization of expected cost. In reality, however, there have been also the other issues affecting the optimality of the preventive maintenance policies, for instance, warranty policy of the system or equipment offered by the vendor or manufacturer to the buyer as the post-sale service. Therefore, in this study, a new preventive maintenance model is developed taken into consideration the warranty period which is subjected to the free-replacement renewal policy. In order to investigate the applicability of newly-constructed model, various numerical experiments are conducted. The sensitive analysis is then conducted to investigate the effect of warranty period on the optimal value of expected maintenance cost. Finally, conclusions and recommendations for further studies are addressed
