Abstract | Performance measurement for the construction industry is a new concept in Vietnam. The construction companies are still using traditional method to measure organizational performance in terms of that it is financial profit and turnover. However, the weakness of traditional measurement method is not able to measure the whole gamut of a construction company's business performance. The purposes of this research are: (1) to adopt "Performance measurement framework for the construction industry" developed by Bassioni, et al. (2005) and modified by Mohammed Afzal (2006) to measure two excellent construction corporations in Vietnam; (2) to use questionnaire to conduct a survey of construction participants' perception about key important measures, general attributes of an excellent construction company. The sources of evidence for two case studies include documents, interview, archival record and direct observations. In addition, the respondents complete the questionnaire of a survey by ranking on a five-point scale the key measures and general attributes of an excellent construction company. During the research, the researcher identified that it can, not only use this framework to measures organizational performance of a construction firm, but also use it for the construction company self-assessment. Moreover, the construction industry participants in Vietnam have the same perception about key important measures and general attributes of an excellent construction company. Therefore, the important key measures and other attributes can be used as reference to build an excellent construction company. Key words: Construction participants, performance measurement framework, the construction organizational performance, enable factors, results factors. |
