AbstractIn cellular phone systems, Radio Frequency (RF) coverage is one of the most important aspects that network planning engineers have to deal with in order to supply customers with best services and lowest cost. The Cityphone system in Hochiminh City was launched in 2003 but there has been no useful tool to manage and optimize its cell station network in order to satisfy customers' demands and economic aspect. The purpose of this research is that of applying the advantages of GIS technology to build a gee-spatial data management system for Cityphone network with a standard database and creating radio reference coverage areas base on driving test data after cell stations installing to find out areas that have no or not enough field strength as required to plan new cell stations. Data of a small area in District 10, Hochiminh City has been chosen to experiment on the system. The result showed that designed database was suitable for cellular mobile system and really had its capability to be expanded for a whole country. This would be a guideline for other related units to explore and perhaps extend for fmiher development.
