AbstractTechnimex JSC is a joint stock company which was equitized from a state-owned company (Technimex) in late 2001. After the equitization, Technimex JSC has to face with many management issues which are consequences from the management system of the state-owned company. The employee turnover was high, many experienced and skilled employees have left the company, and many employees are not satisfied with their job because of low motivation, inadequate compensation and unclear career orientation. How to keep the high skilled employees? How to motivate employees? How to build up a professional labor force? Those are extremely crucial tasks which the company has to do to contribute to the existence and development of the company. Performance appraisal system is an effective management tool which helps management to assess, reward and motivate employees to improve their performance. So the purposes of this research are to analyze the company's current performance appraisal activities and propose an effective performance appraisal system which can be used in the company. Through the information collected from survey questionnaires and in-depth interviews with top management, the current situation of performance appraisal activities of the company was analyzed deeply. The analysis and discussions were presented in many aspects: performance appraisal purposes, appraisal process and methods, appraisers, period, etc. Finally, strategic alternative was proposed to the company to build and develop an effective performance appraisal system, and some recommendations were given to improve the current performance appraisal situation in the company
