Abstract | Management's role in any organization involves the acquisition, disposition, and control of
resources that are necessary for the attainment of organizational objectives. These resources
typically include labor, capital, equipment, and materials, but the focus of this research is
management of inventory. Inventory management is one part of material management.
Inventory models developed for operations research problems can be applied to material
management in construction projects. In construction, projects the demand rates are uncertain
probabilistic model, which can be, applied to construction material management problems.
The main purpose of this research is to define the optimum inventory for a construction
project and compare the theoretical results obtained using an inventory model with actual field
data. The materials in this research focus on cement, and reinforcement steel. The actual data
was collected from seven building construction projects in Thailand. The results show that the
probabilistic model is appropriate for construction projects, and inventory model gave optimal
inventory costs and led to a set of inventory policies, which can be easily implemented by a
decision maker. |
