AbstractThe construction industry has played a significant role in the Thai economy for a long time. Provincial contractors are a part of the construction industry in Thailand. People are attracted to careers in the field. Success in the construction business is more difficult due to obstacles in managing both internal and external environments. Therefore, considering major factors affecting business is needed for provincial contractors. This study was limited to small to medium Thai construction companies maximum construction valued at 100 million baht located in 5 provinces of northeastern Thailand. The total number of samples is 60, selected at nonrandom. Results revealed that, almost all provincial contractor in Thailand, the major type of organization structure is "functional organization". Provincial contractors (present) rank the meeting of customers' expectations first while good quality of product is rank second. High competition and slump of property sector are obstructions to the success of local contractors. Trend of organizational growth of 60 samples: 34 are increasing their number of staff, while 45 are increasing construction value. Moreover, almost all provincial contractors who have another business are Sole proprietorship and Partnership. Almost all provincial contractors who have another business are increasing their number of staff and increasing construction value. Finally, almost all provincial contractors who have another business are "construction material suppliers".
