Abstract | Large Agricultural Pilot Scheme (LAPS) is one of Thai government agricultural strategies that was launched in 2015, in order to help farmers to access throughout supply chains and enhance the competitiveness of small-scale farmers. This study aimed to examine farmers' knowledge, information, and experiences of LAPS, assess farmers' perceptions towards LAPS, identify significant factors affecting farmer's perception, and identify problems, potentials and needs of farmers in implementing LAPS. The samples used in this study were 241 farms household. The sample size was taken from two groups of farm household. Firstly, it was drawn about 151 households of LAPS group out of the total of 246 farm household. Second was taken the 90 farm households from 150 of general farm household. The data were collected in Phraek Si Racha Village, Phraek Si Racha sub-district, Sankhaburi district, Chainat province. by using questionnaire collected from rice farmers during November to December 2017. Data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis, t-test, Spearman and Pearson correlation. The result can be found that the importance source of information dissemination was local extension staff. However, among two groups, farmers had difference information and knowledge about LAPS. The respondents from LAPS group had better knowledge and information about LAPS than the respondent from non-LAPS. However, the main motivation to participate in LAPS were increasing agricultural knowledge and increasing household income. LAPS provided several activities like training activity, demonstration activity and field visit activity. Farmers have experience from many activities from LAPS. Specifically, the demonstration activities because they can practice with the advisor, they can apply the knowledge on their farm. Farmers considered the soil preparation, weed management and pest and disease management training were higher useful of training activity. Moreover, they were highly useful with using bio-chemical, using rice drum seeder and exchange information among farmers and extensions staff of demonstration activity. Interestingly, farmers between two groups had difference of perception on LAPS implementation. Farmers from LAPS group had better perception on LASP than farmer from non-LAPS. Moreover, farmer from non-LAPS had high perception on the negative perception on LAPS. Ultimately, the social factor like member of farmer group and social group were the important factor that influenced to farmer's perception on LAPS implementation. |
