Abstract | Business today has changed very fast and continues to change rapidly. Demanding
customers, e-commerce and new entrants and constantly creating pressure on the
manufacturers for responsiveness and sh01ier cycle times. With more choices in hand
customers are becoming more and more demanding. Customer satisfaction must be
guaranteed by delivering the right thing to the right place at the right time.
Under these circumstances OLIC (Thailand) is facing a major problem in their product
delivery. According to the information from the Manufacturing Director, 80% of their
products are delivered beyond the promised time, and few of them are even delivered
beyond one month. OLIC promises to deliver the order within 3 months of receiving the
order. Whereas the ideal production time takes only about 13 days.
Data obtained from the plant reveals that there is a major idle time during the
production planning stage. Eve1y product has to wait for an average of one month
before their production is scheduled. This waiting time adds up to the delay. In addition
there are some bottlenecks, that is some machines has reached its maximum capacity
utilization. Due to inefficient planning bottlenecks are left idle. This research attempts
to study the reasons behind this delay and suggest some modifications that may be
helpful in the manufacturing of OLIC products. |
