AbstractThe development and implementation of the bridge health monitoring system of the Taksin Bridge, which has already been carried out by Infrastructure Monitoring and Management System (IMMS) Company, are presented and discussed in this research. The Taksin Bridge, over 20 years old, is twin bridges and consists of three-span continuous pre-stressed concrete single box-girders. Currently, the monitor installed at the bridge has 24 channels of different sensor types collecting data such as strains, accelerations, temperature, and movement of support. The monitoring signals are obtained continuously and provide very valuable but limited information. It would seem that the main challenge is to interpret the meaning of the measurements and observations intelligently and systematically. In this research, therefore, we try to interpret the meaning of the health monitoring signals by using a reliable and accurate FE model which is validated by comparing the predicted natural frequencies and mode shapes with the ambient vibration test by Petchroen (2002). A comparison of the experimental results with those by the FE model method indicated a higher degree of correlation. The development and calibration of the FE model are illustrated. Up to now, we have carried out the studies on an investigation of the behavior of this bridge under thermal loadings by using calibrated FE model. It is found that a sinecurve pattern of a mean value of a statistical data is significantly caused by the effects of the temperature change.
