Abstract | The Spatial Decision Support Model for Sustainable Peri-urban Agriculture was a result of combined techniques of Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP). The model was tested on Hanoi province of Vietnam. While preparing the model, the speed of urban sprawl to the peri-urban area was detected as 32.14% per annum using the visual interpretations and urban index techniques in the ten-year RS images. The supervised classification method was carried out and detected the seven types of land use at 89.59% of accuracy from 30-meters resolution Landsat ETM+ image. Three kinds of linkage were identified as road, water resources and market. Road was extracted from topographic map of Hanoi whereas the water resources were derived from the Landsat image and the market from the baseline survey. The accessibility of linkage of each was further measured at different level of scale based on the datasets. The digital soil map of Hanoi was also used in this model. Soil, land use, water resource, road, market and government policies were selected as major influencing indicators for sustainable peri-urban agriculture. The first five indicators were scaled as High, Medium, Low and Not suitable as per their strengths. The AHP method was applied for computing the weights of each indicator. The 30-meters grid based spatial analysis was worked out using linear combination method applying the corresponding indicators' weights and identified the land as high (308.48km2 ), medium (l 15.36km2 ), low (14.49km2 ) and not (109.67km2 ) suitable for the peri-urban agriculture according to FAO guidelines. Lastly, the government plans and policies indicator was analyzed descriptively where the positive attitudes have been found for sustainable peri-urban agriculture. The model allocated land might help to the planners and decision-makers for taking action on various decisions at different level. |
