Abstract | In complex and dynamic changing environment, construction contractors cannot just wait for client's call to tender if they want to still survive in this environment. In contrast, they have to be proactive and have corporate framework system to undertake the projects in future bidding. The Southeast Asia economic crisis had proved this. Therefore, it is necessary to be concerned about corporate bidding strategy of construction contractors as a part of overall organization strategy to achieve the realization goals outcomes of the company. Hence, this study presents the attributes of corporate bidding strategy and their obstacles in Indonesia construction contractors with the impacts on the bidding performance. Those attributes consist of bidding mission establishment, environment analysis, corporate bidding objective setting, bidding policy development, budgeting process, and approval mechanism. The respondents, mainly consisted of top management level in the state-owned and private-owned contractors, were surveyed through questionnaires and interviews methods. The response rate is 31.75% with the returned questionnaires of 41 of 126. According to the finding, private-owned companies are more aware and have properly documented corporate bidding strategy than state-owned companies do. Overall respondents have similar limitation on conducting external analysis due to confidentiality of information and transparency in bidding. In addition, technology learning is not the primary motive in their corporate bidding objectives as this can bring financial burden to company. In conclusion, overall respondents are aware that corporate bidding strategy can affect their bidding performance, however, there is still the need to implement the corporate bidding strategy aiming for the successful of construction bidding. |
