AbstractThe relationship between organizational culture and organizational effectiveness has been studied for several years. It is proposed that this relationship may able to determine the level of effectiveness of organizational through its strength and type. This study focuses on two aspects, which are to assess and to measure organizational culture profile of contractor companies and its elements, and to find out the relationship between organizational culture and organizational effectiveness of contractor companies in Thailand by observing the culture, which can be an asset for a company to improve organizational effectiveness. The necessary data was collected by using questionnaire survey. The analysis of organizational culture and effectiveness was classified into groups, based on job position and duration of company existence. In overall, the results indicated that the strongest culture of contractor companies in Thailand is characterized by Hierarchy culture followed by Market, Clan, and Adhocracy culture respectively. Based on the duration of company existence, there are differences in dominant culture between two classes of companies. However, the classification based on job position gives the same dominant culture as in overall. The study has investigated that each culture type has different effect on the different criteria of effectiveness. Based on the survey, it is revealed that Clan culture is fit for companies in achieving high employee satisfaction and client satisfaction, and completing the project on time and on budget. On the other hand, the cultural factor does not influence contractor companies in improving project quality, productivity, and profitability. Classification by job position gives different result in the case of organizational culture profile and its relationship with organizational effectiveness. However, it should be understood that there is no one right culture and all four types of culture may be present in the contractor companies in varying degrees. Organizational culture is not the only factor that can influence organizational effectiveness. Nevertheless, a construction organization should understand its culture in order to improve performance and effectiveness.
