AbstractInternational provenance trial of Azadirachta indica A.Juss was established at Nam Suang Forestry Research Centre, Naxaithong district, Vientiane Municipality, Laos in 1996 with 25 seedlot from 11 countries. The results showed that 4 seedlot from Myene Myanmar, Geta, Nepal, Multan ,Pakistan, and Kuliyapitiya Srilanka are best growth and survival with height more than 6.5 metre, 9.00 cm in DBH and 65 % of survival. These provenance are suitable for planting in Vientiane Municipality area and in area where there are similar climatic and geographical conditions. This group also can be used as seed source production. The study on fuelwood utilization by measuring fuelwin 30 households in four villages around Nam Suang Forestry Research Centre found that average annual use of fuelwood is 0.86 cubic metre per capita, in comparison with qualitative data during interview with villagers was nearly one cubic metre per capita in estimation. To be sustainable use, the calculation was made to estimate number of neem trees to be planted in different densities by selection of 05/IND/All which is best provenance for annual productivity (38.8 x 10-4 m3 / tree). The average number of trees need to be planted is about 1,350 trees per household or equivalent 5.26 m3 for consumption. From the interview, the villagers' preference for tree species planting, mostly is teak (56.7 %), second is planting all species (no preference) in their garden while neem planting is only one person for flower consumption.
