Abstract | High performance computing and graphic simulation is used to model the elbow joint. Based on computerized tomography (CT) scans of the radius, ulna and humerus, an STL model of the elbow joints are used in the ADAMS kinematics and dynamic simulation software. The objective of the model is to simulate the real motion of the elbow joint. This simulation requires knowledge on 3D computer graphics, anatomy, surgery and 3D rigid body mechanics. The objective is to optimize the geometry of the design of a radial head implant. The geometry of the musculoskeletal system is quite complex. 3D computer graphic is therefore helpful to visualize the 3D geometric relationships. The aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of the basic elbow joint kinematics on the implant design parameters. This study describes how to model the elbow joint and use the result to improve the design of the implant. |
