Abstract | This thesis study focused on the maintenance techniques for an assembly system of a television company. Existing maintenance practices of the company is observed. Failure data of main production system from the company's records are collected to generate failure distributions. An attempt is made to find out the optimal preventive maintenance period by applying Barlow and Hunter method for each main machine and equipment in the whole system. The dynamic programming algorithm for oppo1iunistic maintenance is then applied to group machines together for scheduling preventive maintenance. Simulation model is then used to evaluate the proposed preventive maintenance schedule and compare it with the current practice of breakdown maintenance. The improvement in terms of overall tlu·oughput is about 3% and the reduction in queue is about 40.4%. |
