Abstract | Using standard laboratory procedures, it was found that recycled mechanical pulp makes stronger sheet than laaft Recycling of mechanical pulp increased tensile strength and apparent density but reduced slightly tear strength and scattering coefficient. Recycling at alkaline condition has improved strength properties further. Stripping of the pulps from fines showed that the increase in strength of mechanical pulps is not due to loss in fines. Probably, previous interpretation of fiber flattening due to recycling remains valid even though it is a speculation. The results also showed that the COD load of recycled mechanical pulp is lower than the virgin pulp. |
