Abstract | A number of researches have been conducted in term of pre project planning, particularly by the Construction Industry Institute, America. However, the understanding of pre project planning is still limited in Vietnam. Up to now, there is no study done regarding this very beginning phase in a project life even though it is a very important role for the success of a project according to the CII. This study focuses on the assessment pre project planning performed in Petro Vietnam, the most robust Corporation in Vietnam currently with major contributions to the growth and development of Vietnamese economy. Two central steps in pre project-planning phase have been studied including alternatives selection and the project definition approach development. The former comprises of technology analysis, site evaluation, conceptual scope and conceptual estimates, and alternative evaluation. The later comprises more detail work such as risk analysis, scope and design, project execution, definition of project approach, project control guideline, and compilation of project definition package. The findings showed good performance in pre project planning due to much effort and good worthy acquaintance in Petro Vietnam. Nevertheless, this study also reveals some shortcomings due to specific circumstance in Petro Vietnam these days. Recommendations are made to the organization and further study dissertations suggested. |
