AbstractThe quality management program aims to find the most efficient way of managing the quality of work as to satisfy customers' requirement. It is recognized to day that quality has to be considered more than in the past, as it is essential for an organization to succeed and grow. The present situation in Bangladesh after analysis the data, is that quality management in construction has long a way to go before it gains acceptance. The reasons for this are misunderstanding of QMC and how QMC can apply properly to the construction industry. In this study it also found that the contractors and owners are rarely concerned that quality is a factor to increase productivity. The quality, time and cost are the factors that every business or project has to face. All the factors depend on which one should be critical in each kind of situation. In quality management philosophy it is the customer who decides whether or not an item is of high quality or not, therefore the definition must include the customer. In the Bangladesh most of the construction projects have low budgets and short construction period and it is difficult for the contractor to completed the projects units good quality to owner satisfaction. The viewpoints about quality are different for Bangladeshi contractors and owners and it is some times a neglected topic for the small and medium level contractor. Therefore investigate the present situation of quality management in construction and exploring why contractors and owners are rarely concerned about quality are important issues in the quality management system in the Bangladesh construction industry.
