Abstract | The ability to describe the motion and forces involved in human gait is considered to be the main factor contributing to the success of modern artificial hip replacement. A successful design and application of artificial joints depends greatly on the understanding of the hip functions and the internal forces appearing at the joint surfaces during walking and other activity of living. This knowledge can only be obtained through kinematics and dynamic modeling of human hip joint. This study intends to simulate the real motion of the hip joint on the base of the Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems (ADAMS) simulation software. The major objective of this study is to quantify hip kinematics. The human musculoskeletal systems are quite complex. Therefore, three-dimensional computer graphic is helpful to visualize the three-dimensional geometric relationships. The three-dimensional bone surface model is created based on computerized tomography (CT) data. By means of MIMICS software and MedCAD, the CT data is processed to generate STL files in ASCII code of the hip joint in separate part. These files are imported in the ADAMS kinematics simulation software. This study describes how to model the hip joint and use the model to kinematics analysis. |
