AbstractMany researches indicated that operational conditions might be the main cause of difference between the performances of pull and push systems. In this thesis, a hypothetical system is studied for subassembly line with multi-stage, multi-part. The objective is to study effects of operational factors on performance measures under MRP and Kanban strategies. Simulation models are developed for the study. From the results of the simulation experiments, it is observed that there is interaction relationship between values of input factor and output measures. Heuristic procedure, based on levels in Bill of Material and results from hypothesis test, is employed to determine the values of input factors, which are the number of Kanbans for the JIT model and safety stocks for MRP model. Simulation experiments are conducted with scenarios where variances of processing time and demand are involved. A comparative analysis on performance measures between the two models can be obtained in the same operational environment. The result indicates that the pull system outperforms the push system in term of lead time and WIP inventory in such environment.
