Abstract | Faced with urbanization, Lao PDR focus on development infrash·ucture took no heed to environmental protection and became culTent issue. The problems on environment appearing from growth population, urbanization, modernization, consumption pattern and the others. The main problem of environmental condition is disposal waste that damage natural environment especially in urban area. To maintain the environmental, Lao government held several programs joint with some international NGO. The study was conducted to understand the pa1ticularity of people environmental awareness in local community, to access various ongoing government environmental awareness and information dissemination program, to identify impo1tant area of reforms in cunent government programs and activities. Sixty respondents were interview to gain information about environmental awareness in Sihom area and key informants from people who live around that area or public figure. The result showed that Sihom area appears to have bad environmental conditions such as stagnant water, waste problem etc. From observation, it can be conclude that gender play role in maintaining environment. The survey showed that females are more active in maintaining the environmental than males because they use water for daily activity. The main constraints in Sihom area on environmental awareness are lack of human resources, responsibility, dissemination of information and lack of budget. The study recommended that to improve environmental awareness need the integrated wastewater management and policy which is provide together with all sector such as government, private sector, NGO and people who live in Sihom area. |
