AbstractConstruction industry is immensely competitive in nature having augmented set of demands and high expectations with designs and imagination reaching its ultimatum. To satisfy all the increased needs and to race with the growing world, it is high time for the construction companies to adopt innovation in their organisations. The more important aspect of innovation in an organisation is the behavior of people, how they are led and what the company gains by adopting innovation. The present study focusses on Innovative Culture Characteristics, Innovative Strategies and Innovative Performance measures which are the elements that makes a company truly innovative. The conceptual framework for this study is developed from the comprehensive literature review. It gives complete depiction of construction innovation adoption. The present study deals with two conceptual frameworks. The first framework is based on a concept where Innovative Culture Characteristics have a direct influence on Innovative Performance. Second framework is the conceptualisation of relationship between Innovative Cultural Characteristics and Innovative Strategies. The present study focuses on quantitative research method. A quantitative based instrument in the form of survey questionnaire is used as research instrument for this study. The data was collected from 60 contractor companies in southern parts of India. The questions were based especially for evaluating company’s Innovative culture, Innovative Strategies and Innovative Performance. The quantification of the data collected is carried out by using the statistical tool – SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science). Further, Data analysis resulted in a relationship between Innovative Culture Characteristics and Innovative Performance, which portrayed that Leadership strongly influences Business growth performance whereas, Collaboration and Empowerment strongly affects Productive growth performance. On the other hand, a relationship between Innovative Culture Characteristics and Innovative Strategies revealed that Customer focus is strongly needed for Need Seeker strategy, Collaboration and Empowerment for Market Reader strategy and Leadership for Technology Driver strategy. Finally, a case study was conducted to observe the Innovative culture in the company as well as to validate the relationship of Innovative Culture with Innovative Strategies and Innovative Performance. Overall, the study makes an attempt to increase the awareness of contractor companies about their cultural perspective of Innovation in construction. Relationship of Innovative Culture with Innovative Strategies and Innovative Performance can be used to assess the cultural characteristics that a construction company needs to concentrate in order to undertake certain Innovative strategies and as well as to attain certain Innovative performance measures.
