Abstract | This study was conducted to respond to the present situation of the tourism development in the Cox's Bazar district, Bangladesh where tourism is not yet recognized as the major generator of economic activity. Almost all the activities are conducting in Cox's Bazar at the district level related to Tourism. This study commenced to identify the impacts of the current tourism development situation and to provide recommendations for sustainable development of the city. The methods employed in this study began with the techniques to collect primary data, such as observation, questionnaire survey informal discussion with key informant. The objectives of this study were to examine and identify the issues that are being obstacles for the sustainable tourism in the Cox's Bazar city. The reviews of relevant documents and textbooks provided an understanding of the government activities as well as background knowledge on sustainable tourism development. A SWOT analysis was conducted in order to understand the actual situation of tourism in Cox's Bazar. Finally, the results of the analysis and data were included and combined to become the basis for proposing policy guidelines, strategies and action plans for developing sustainable tourism for Cox's Bazar. Recommendations were proposed considering the present political and administrative condition of Bangladesh The study emphasized the importance of having an integrated plan, the inclusion of private participation and effective institutional coordination for developing tourism in the Cox's Bazar destination. |
