AbstractIn this day and age, businesses operate within a complex system. Construction project concerns with many interested parties which we call them project stakeholders. Each project stakeholder has different interests and different influences in the project. Project managers have to monitor and manage them effectively to ensure that their actions do not affect to the project success. The overall objective of this thesis is to understand how project managers of contractor manage their key project stakeholders in the conflict situations. The types of interests from both project managers and project stakeholders were identified. Sources that create conflicts between them were revealed. The power bases that project managers have over their project stakeholders were assessed. The last, strategies that project managers use to gain success were identified. This study was done under the survey method by collecting data from project managers of contractor using qualitative content analysis, rating, ranking and Kendall coefficient concordance as measurers. The results show that main interests of project stakeholders are about the project goals, time, cost and quality while conflicts often come from sources that involved with interest issues. Most project managers rely on their expert power, decision making power and referent power and selecting reasoning, consultation and friendliness as the effective strategies dealing with their project stakeholders. These findings help us understanding more about the relationship between project managers and project stakeholders.
