Abstract | A primary objective of statistical process control (SPC) is to maintain quality characteristics of items generated by a process as close as possible to target values for as much time, or amount of production, as possible. Customers view point and expectations have changed significantly in the past few years. Customers now do not merely expect the products to be "within spec". They expect, rightly so, the products to be "on target". Uniformity has become more and more important as the traditional goal of "aiming to be within specs" becomes less and less relevant. So SPC can help companies cut costs, improve quality, and pursue continuous improvement and also satisfy the customers. To move towards the achievement of this objective a real case study has been selected. In this connection, practical importance of process control tools has been introduced. To see the effectiveness of process and product control system, it fully dependent on accurate (precision) measurements system. A brief and comprehensive measurement system (Gage R&R) study has been introduced, not only this case study, but for any measurement device through Minitab quality software. Data are also analyzed by checking descriptive statistics, the normal assumption (i.e. Histogram, scatter diagram, Hypothesis testing) through by Mintab. X and R-control chart are also designed to see the pattern of the process and take any action according to analyzed of the pattern. After control chart designed, to see whether it is capable or not means whether it is rightly on target or not. How it performs? In this connection, process capability and process performances has been calculated through Minitab and analyzed. The main problem faced by Armature Resistance process is commutator fusing. There are also internal as well as external customer complaints against commutator fusing. In this case study a brief and comprehensive factors for commutators fusing are suggested. Suggestions and recommendations about commutator fusing and also provide the ground to over come the commutator fusing problem through design of experiments for further research study. |
