Abstract | This study addresses solving a practical problem in logistics system of a petroleum company, aiming for an improvement of the company's regional depot system. The main objective of the study is to make decisions on depots to be kept opened, as well as allocation of customers to each depot, in order to minimize the total annual distribution cost of the system. The problem was defined as a multi-commodity capacitated multi-facility location problem and was modeled as a mixed integer nonlinear program of moderate size. The Branch-and-Bound algorithm was chosen to be the tool to solve this problem, based on which, several programs running in LINGO software were built. An Excel spreadsheet was also established as an auxiliary tool and for comparing with the results of the LINGO model. Result obtained is quite promising with a saving of about 800,000 USD for the company. This study also provides a sensitivity analysis, which is an investigation of possible changes of input parameters and how these changes affect the solution, thus making the study much more informative and meaningful to the company, rather than just a solution report. |
