Abstract | At present, the gmment industry in Thailand is one of main industries exporting to abroad. The nature of the garment industry is labor intensive and uses low technology; thus, a country that has low labor cost may have an advantage. There are many countries which m·e strong competitors for Thailand coming from Asia and America such as, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Mexico, Brazil and so on. Although labor cost of Thailand is higher than these countries, Thailand produces a better quality of products and better reliability. However, those qualifications are not enough to complete with other countries. The garment industry in Thailand should shorten lead time of production and produce flexible quantity of products. Thus, lead time would be a important factor for customers to decide for buying products. This paper will present approaches to lower production lead time which is one component of total lead time of garment industry. The approaches start from work improvement of tasks in production lines. Then all production lines will be balanced to achieve the production target, the efficiency of production lines, and the productive production system. Next, the comparison between the present production system and the new production system will be performed by using the simulation approach. Finally, Work-in-process (WIP) which effects production lead time will be set at the appropriate WIP level by generating Factory Signature Curve of the new production system under the conditions and operating policy used by the factory. |
