| Abstract | Space-Time Code Modulation (STCM) was proposed by (Tarokh et al., 1998) to
improve the performance of wireless systems with high data rate transmission. The outage
capacity is the basis to construct the codes rather than Shannon's capacity. For a single user,
STCM has shown the favorable properties such as robustness to channel fading over uncoded
or even trellis coded modulation (TCM).
Multi-carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) was proposed to
overcome the deficiencies in the performance of conventional CDMA over frequencyselective
fading channel. MC-CDMA employs a multi-carrier modulation technique to
spread the information in frequency domain. The subcarriers are orthogonal. The transmitted
signals in sub-carriers undergo flat fading.
\
The performance of MC-CDMA using STCM as a channel coding scheme is
investigated here over the slow frequency-selective fading channel. From the simulation
results, it can be seen that the performance degrades in the case of multiple users. The
difference between MC-CDMA using STCM and uncoded case, a TCM schemes is that we
may not be able to use a proper combining technique to counteract channel fading. This is
due to the fact that the signal from each antenna is different. Therefore, multiuser detection
employing parallel interference cancellation (PIC) is utilized and investigated to improve the
performance of the proposed system. |
