Abstract | This study considers the relevance of environmental management to construction
organization and identifies hindering factors for implementing effective environmental
management in the Lao construction industry.
The results showed that environmental issues are a new concern for the Lao construction
industry. In practice, environmental management responsibility is virtually non-existent as a
result of lack of enforcement of existing laws and regulations in construction projects.
Ineffective environmental management practices and low environmental awareness
among the construction participants organization at present reflect weaknesses in technical,
financial, educational, and organizational related aspects of environmental management.
Conclusions regarding the current level of environmental awareness among construction
participants and problems hindering the effective environmental management implementation
are listed. Recommendations with possible solutions and suggestions for improving the
environmental management in construction industry are presented. |
