AbstractThe major problems of project duration delay and project cost overrun in the Vietnamese construction projects are the failures of managers in quantifying the uncertainties of project duration and project cost in the planning stage. This thesis aims to develop the risk analysis and optimization models that can quantify the uncertainties of project duration and project cost in the Vietnamese construction projects. A preliminary survey was carried out to identify the problems. Then, the three risk analysis and optimization models for project duration and project cost were developed, in which the correlations, subjective data and the choices of distributions for input data were considered. The models were applied in a case study project in Vietnam, and it was demonstrated that they can be used efficiently in practice. The issue of comparative influence of correlation and distribution shapes to the output was also discussed. It was found that incorporating correlation have more significant influence on the result than the selecting of probability distribution.
