Abstract | In recent years, within construction industry the combination of projects complexity, the information demands for many participants involved and growing client expectation in delivery time, has placed emphasis on the need for effective management information systems. In particular, during the construction stage of a project life cycle, applying proper processes with accurate and effective information system becomes critical so that construction personnel enables to perform the functions in an efficient manner. This study deals with planning and control information system implementation and application of computer technology in construction organization. It presents proper processes with efficient and effective information system in planning and control area. Processes focus on estimating, scheduling, resource planning, monitoring, analysis and forecasting and reporting. Construction personnel's responsibilities and management actions for effective performance and communication are explored. Information utilization and means of processing information is also stated. Especially, the research focuses on application of construction-oriented management software. A survey of system implementation in Chinese construction organizations was conducted. Based on the results of survey, deficiency of the existing system and areas of current problems in practical application of computer technology were identified. Key construction personnel's performance with defined responsibility within the existing system was also assessed. |
